I’m worried about the path that our society is on. Most of us in North America and Europe enjoy very comfortable lifestyles, mostly made possible through the use of non-renewable resources. Not only are these resources going to run out at some point in the future, using them is creating pollution that is degrading our environment.
In a finite world we cannot continue to consume limited resources and also maintain economic and population growth.

I believe that if we can mold our cities into more sustainable environments, we can better manage our limited resources, and hopefully avert serious environmental consequences.

I have noticed that Calgary has already implemented a number of sustainable practices. Much more work is need for the city to reach a truly sustainable level in my opinion, but what I have seen gives me hope that this is at least possible - if and when sustainability becomes a priority for the citizens of Calgary. Combined with sustainable practices being used in other areas of the world, Calgary could become a world leader in sustainable living.

I believe that it’s important to consider many inter-related factors such as density, energy, transportation, production and economics together when looking at sustainability issues.
