I believe that it is in our society’s best interest to move away from not sustainable practices. The cumulative effects of over six billion people following current production, consumption and pollution levels is leading us down a path towards eventual environmental devastation.
I have noticed that even though Calgary has made a tentative start down the path to sustainability, it is still very much stuck on the wider (and far more comfortable) freeway of non sustainability. Calgary is not alone. Cities around the world have been struggling with these issues since the industrial revolution, and I’m not sure that there are any easy answers. Each factor is intricately tied up with the next, making changes even more difficult to achieve. However, these problems are not outside the realm of human capacity to resolve, so there is still hope.
